General information about City of Stockholm

The sculpture The Dance by Carl Eldh in the City Hall Garden.

A unique way to experience City Hall is to take a tour of outside of the building. Using an mp3-player as a guide you can go on a tour around City Hall’s Garden and learn more about the building’s exciting history.

City Hall’s facades and garden are filled with symbols, Stockholm legends, myths, artists and heroes. During the audio tour you’ll find out more about what and who they are and their meaning for the City Hall’s architect Ragnar Östberg.  You’ll learn about Birger Jarl, St. Göran and the dragon as a symbol for the battle at Brunkebergstorg, Engelbrekt and the three crowns at top of the City Hall Tower.

The tour is approximately 30 minutes in duration and takes you around the City Hall Courtyard and the Garden. The audio guide, available in both English and Swedish, is simple to use and a map makes it easy to find your way around, and you can follow the tour at your own pace. The audio guide can be hired at the entrance for guided tours and costs 30 SEK.

The audio guide is available for hire during the day, even when City Hall is closed to the public due to events.

The audio guide is not available during the winter since so many of the points of interest in the garden are covered at that time.
