Wedding Ceremonies at the City Hall

The City Hall is a very popular venue for wedding ceremonies. Wedding ceremonies are arranged on Saturdays between 12.00 and 18.00. They are held in the Oval Room and last about five minutes.

The Oval Room has a maximum capacity of 15 guests. The ceremonies can be performed in Swedish or English.

Required documents

To get married in Sweden, you need to apply for a Certificate of No Impediment at the Swedish Tax Office.

The document is called ”Hindersprövning” in Swedish. For questions about required documents, please contact the Tax Office.

The day of the ceremony

To reach the Oval Room, use the entrance from Hantverkargatan 1and walk across the Civic Courtyard towards the waterside park. Take the open-air steps located to the right of the tower entrance. The Oval Room is located one flight up.

Please be present at least 15 minutes before the time of the ceremony. The City Hall staff can serve as witnesses, if required. Please note that the wedding couple must bring valid ID-cards and inform our staff upon arrival.

After the ceremony

Couples married in the City Hall will receive a marriage certificate in Swedish. (English certificates can be arranged if requested in advance). After the wedding ceremony, documents will be sent to the Tax Office for registration. If other documentations, besides the marriage certificate, are required to verify your marriage in your country - please contact the Swedish Tax Office.
