One of the main goals of the project is to decrease energy consumption and transport emissions by 60 percent in targeted areas.
The GrowSmarter project consists of eight European cities, a number of environmental technology companies. A total 12 smart solutions will be tested and evaluated. Stockholm, Barcelona and Cologne are three of the so called ”lighthouse cities” – cities with particular focus areas of demonstration. The three Stockholm areas are: Årstastråket, Slakthusområdet and Hammarby Sjöstad.
-Sustainable growth is critical for European cities, and environmental technical solutions are key ingredients in reaching this goal. We estimatet hat this project will create 1500 new jobs in the pilot areas, in close cooperation with environmental technical companies, says Gustaf Landahl, Program Manager and head of department at the City’s Environment Administration.
The EU Commission contributes 25 million Euros to the effort.
