The City Hall Organ is one of the largest instruments in Europe, with approximately 10 000 pipes and 135 stops. Inaugurated in 1925, this magnificent organ has since entertained listeners at a variety of events including concerts and other festivities.
In 1969 - 72 the organ was altered and enlarged (read more by clicking on Brief History). However, the condition of the organ has deteriorated with time and the City of Stockholm has decided that it should undergo a comprehensive reconstruction. The work – currently the most extensive of its kind in Europe – is being performed by the highly reputable firm of Harrison & Harrison in England and began in January 2007.
The renovated pipes have arrived to the Blue Hall in sets on several occasions throughout 2008. And so, on Tuesday November 18 2008, the renovated organ was inaugurated in the Blue Hall. The Swedish Crown Princess Victoria, among others, attended the ceremony.
