A political centre
From the City Hall, which is the main symbol for the capital of Sweden, the City of Stockholm is being governed. Around 200 politicians and civil servants have their offices in this building.
The Mayor of Stockholm is Mr Sten Nordin. The City’s political organisation also comprises eight governing Vice Mayors who are full-time politicians and are appointed by the City Council.
101 councillors are appointed following general elections held at the same time as the parliamentary and county council elections.
